Museum visit
questions and answers

Do you have a parking garage? How much does it cost?

Yes, there is a parking garage (P+R Naturalis) on Mendelweg (€1.20 per half hour, €25.00 per day). Parking tickets can only be purchased in the parking garage.

Can I reserve a parking space?

No, you cannot reserve a parking space. During busy periods, the parking garage can fill up, so we recommend travelling by public transport. Naturalis is a 10-minute walk from Leiden Central Station.

What is the maximum height for entering the parking garage?

2.10 meters. If you are arriving in a taller vehicle, you can use the Haagweg car park instead. From there, you can easily reach Naturalis by shuttle bus.

What if the car park is full?

You can park on Haagweg and take the free shuttle to Naturalis. Find out more about the Haagweg car park and the city shuttle bus here. It will take you to and pick you up from Naturalis and other city centre locations for free. You can also find up-to-date information about parking in Leiden on the municipal website.

Do you have charging points for electric cars?

Yes, there are 80 charging stations available at the P+R Naturalis. These cannot be reserved.

How old do you need to be to enjoy Naturalis?

Naturalis is fun for all ages! From toddlers to grandparents, everyone will discover something new at Naturalis. Small children can feast their eyes on the animals in the Life gallery, while even younger visitors will love the cute baby animals in the Seduction gallery. In the Ice Age gallery, you can explore a miniature landscape through special binoculars. At weekends and during school holidays, you can check out the curiosity cabinets and our workshops where you can look at, touch, and learn about real objects from nature.

At Naturalis, you will experience the full circle of life – from birth to old age – and discover how everything in nature is connected. Come along and discover the wonders of nature together!

Rexperience
questions and answers

What is the Rexperience?

The Rexperience is no ordinary museum exhibit... it’s an entire experience! You’ll take a trip back in time to 66 million years ago when Trix the T. rex lived.  Who knows, you might even get to meet this mighty carnivore. Step inside the futuristic travel agency, enter the capsule, and get ready for an adventure. Will you be brave enough to travel back in time?

Will I see Trix’s skeleton in the Rexperience?

No, her skeleton can be found in the Dinosaur Era gallery. The Rexperience is about travelling back to the time when Trix lived.

What ages is the Rexperience suitable for?

The Rexperience is an authentic experience, with loud noises and scary effects. The Netherlands Youth Institute, which also advises on film ratings, has set the recommended age at 8 years old. Rexperience might be too frightening and unpleasant for younger children, so we strongly advise against bringing children under 8 years old. Children under 12 years of age can only visit the Rexperience if accompanied by an adult.

How long does the Rexperience last?

The experience lasts 20 minutes in total.

What time should I arrive at the Rexperience?

Please arrive five minutes before your time slot starts at the entrance on the 3rd floor.

What if I miss my time slot?

If there is still space, we can rearrange your experience. Please note we might not be able to do this on busy days.
