The Global Tree Assessment (GTA) is an ambitious initiative to catalogue the conservation status of all the world’s tree species by 2020. The baseline for the GTA is an online list of around 60,000 tree species, with country level distributions, which depends on the work of plant taxonomists globally. This presentation will explain the background, methodology, progress and prospects for completion of the GTA and opportunities for achieving conservation impact. Links with the work of Naturalis will be highlighted. Remaining challenges will be explored and opportunities for further collaboration discussed.
